 Neck glands
I just have a quick question about glands. For the past 4 days, I have a spot in the front of my neck that is very painful. I also seem to have soreness on that same side under my ear. Do different glands swell from time to time with this disease? Thanks Cassie

 Re: Neck glands
I have 2 permanently swollen glands in my neck There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with them, I never get sick, and it's not an infection. They are sore if you touch them. They've been like this for at least the last 2 years. The soreness could also be tender points. We have more tender points than the typical 18 they check you for. I have extras, especially in the neck, jaw area. But do have them checked~ it could be something.

 Re: Neck glands
Hey, sorry i didn't respond to the PM....just been too fatigued......that is when I get the swollen glands. Some people think that is a sign of chronic fatigue. I have been dx'd with that. I have noticed when the fatigue is bad, the glands are swollen and sore. I sometimes get low grade fevers too. This is kind of graphic, but here goes: One day I got this really horrible pain under my tongue. It felt like razor blades were slicing me there, and it hurt from there to the outside of my chin. There was a swollen lump under my chin too. But for about an hour....saliva ran out of my mouth in buckets. All I could do was hand my head over the toilet. I have never had that happen again, and by the time it was over, it was over...no signs of anything. I mentioned it to a doc, but I was living in FL at the time, and I hated my doc as she was not good (HMO- I had to see her). So, anyway....I am wondering if that was a trigger point that got very irritated??? But in answer to your question...yep, that is another symptom. But like we always say here, it could be a sign of something else too, so you may want to watch it for a few days, and if it doesn't go down, see your doc. You could be fighting off an infection somewhere.

 Re: Neck glands
Hi Yes i too get this very often the swollen gland in the neck leading up to a painful ear it,s mostly on the right side but some time,s on both i just thought it was a build up of ear wax I just tend to take 2 antiflam and pour a syringe full of warm oil in the effected ear to loosen it up and if that dont work i sit with a warm water bottle on which ever side as the pain didnt realise so many people suffered with it it does ease up but some times it can take quite a while but it always comes back at some point love MO

 Re: Neck glands
Due to other medical issues, I have had fibro all of my lifee.
Always had problems with the pain, sleeping, gastrointeritis, headaches, & fibrofog which unforunately impaired my ability to learn or retain what I did learn. This caused such a problem that I never graduated from H.S., till much later in life.
Was constantly in & out of hospitals however I never had any kind of problems with my lymph nodes unless I came down with some kind of infection. Antibiotics usually took care of that.
As a young adult my sysmtoms worsened, started running temps 4 no reasons, exhaustion seemed to get much worse. Now I was not just spending time in bed due to pain but becaues I was always too tired to do very much.
Bck then I had never heard of the word fibromyalgia Even when they did aknowledge cfs, it was coined the yippie syndrome which was degrading in itself.
The glands on my neck, under my arms & inquinal area were constanly swollen accompanied by a temp.
I never had this problem b4 the cfs. Some drs that I have been to think that cfs & fibromyalgia r 1 & the same, however I don't buy that because I have more problems with the fibro than anything else. I don'tthink we will really know until they do more extensive research on both of them since the symtoms seem to over lap each other.
Please tcoys & in the meantime here is WUAR&LPWKnd. boo

 Re: Neck glands
Thanks everyone for your responses.. I am watching this right now, it is a little better today. I have been putting heat on it and taking Advil so if it doesn't go completely away by wednesday I will book an appointment. I just find it so hard because our family GP isn't very good. In reality I have to diagnose myself then go and tell him so it puts a damper on going for advice. I will keep you posted and thanks for being so welcoming. Cassie

 Doctors thoughts on neck glands..
So I broke down and went to my dr.'s office the other day just to get this neck thing checked. He had a look in my ears and said, wow.. that's awful, good for me, but not for you. As in my ear was so retracted that the bone is almost pushing out.. etc.. said the pain in my neck is probably from that so take antihistimes or decongestants for it. Fine.. I do that.. and in the middle of the night I woke up with my other side of my sinus' completely blocked and my gland on that side so swollen it is probably the size of an easter egg you give the kids.Sigh this is going to get old really quick.. Have I told you i don't have the best dr. in the world.

 Re: Neck glands
This is what happened to my son, he is 36 yrs old and had a swelling in his neck after a bout with strep throat. Took antibiotics and it went away. Then the swelling came back and persisted. An ENT dr. gave him a CT scan and dx him with a branchial cyst. I had never heard of it before, but you can google it and find out lots of info. Anyway, the swelling got worse, got infected and he had to see another ENT and he did surgery to remove it, about the size of his fist!
So don't ignore it, you might need a specialist if your reg. doc can't figure it out.
