Fibromom, I just checked the rules because I had not worked except doing a very small amount of bookkeeping for another company in about 5 years before I applied for disability. Anyway the rules now say you have to have earned 40 points and half of those within the last 10 years to qualify.

I have also known of women who continued to work part time until they got on disability because they were not married and had no other source of income. And they were granted disability even though they were working part time.

I know it gets more and more difficult to get disability. And averages taking 2 years and being turned down and appealing before getting it. After being approved it takes 2 more years before you are eligible for medicare. Which leaves many people without insurance for several years....sad but true.

My advice would be to anyone even considering applying to talk to a disability attorney first. One visit does not usually cost very much and you would know the rules and pit falls.
